Created in 1962, ESO provides astronomers with cutting-edge instruments and access to the southern sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Presently, ESO is manufacturing the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT &#8211; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extremely_Large_Telescope\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extremely_Large_Telescope<\/a>) on the top of Cerro Armazones in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. When completed, it will be the world&#8217;s largest optical\/near-infrared ELT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Italy joined ESO as a Member State on 24 May 1982. As a long-standing member, the country\u2019s community of scientists and engineers have contributed to ESO projects in many keyways,\u00a0and particularly, Italy is also largely involved in the ELT construction with many private companies. Among these, MF Trasformatori S.r.l. (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mftrasformatori.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.mftrasformatori.it\/<\/a>) is in charge to supply the telescope with three very large electric transformers. Being the telescope very sensitive to vibrations, the technical specifications require an ad-hoc investigation on the ground transmitted vibration levels of all the installed devices. For this reason, MF Trasformatori required Vicoter (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vicoter.it\" target=\"_blank\">www.vicoter.it<\/a>) to investigate the behavior of its products before they can be put in service in Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vicoter is an Italian company operating in the market of vibrational measurements since 2009 with the most up-to-date software and hardware instruments to measure vibrations on large and small structures belonging to many fields, from aerospace to automotive, from building to industrial machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this activity, Vicoter used PCB accelerometers and a Siemens-LMS SCADAS front end, which guaranteed excellent insulation from the electromagnetic fields generated by the transformers themselves, to investigate the operative transmitted vibrations of three transformers of different sizes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vicoter.it\/?attachment_id=2248\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1345\" height=\"495\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vicoter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Figure2-MF-Trasformatori.jpg?fit=1024%2C1024&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vicoter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Figure2-MF-Trasformatori.jpg?w=1345&amp;ssl=1 1345w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vicoter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Figure2-MF-Trasformatori.jpg?resize=768%2C282&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.vicoter.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Figure2-MF-Trasformatori.jpg?resize=300%2C110&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1140px) 100vw, 1140px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Particulars of the installation of some accelerometers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The job was accomplished at the client\u2019s site, in the laboratory of MF Trasformatori in Calcinato, Brescia, Italy.
